Volkswagen Showcases Growing Electric Family

Volkswagen’s future is looking electric – Volkswagen of America, Inc. took the spotlight at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show by presenting its complete North American lineup of electric vehicles, featuring the ID. Buzz, ID.7 and the enhanced ID.4. This marks the first joint appearance of all three models at an auto show, providing attendees with a comprehensive look at Volkswagen’s electrified future.

The all-electric ID. Buzz pays homage to the iconic Microbus, combining retro design with advanced EV technology, boasting a 91-kWh skateboard-style battery that provides 282 horsepower for the rear-wheel-drive model and around 330 horsepower for the all-wheel-drive model. The vehicle features a classic boxy shape, retro cues, and vibrant colors on the exterior, while the interior offers a spacious and tailored environment with three unique color and trim choices for the North American market. With a range of modern features, including an electrochromic panoramic sunroof, multicolor ambient lighting, and advanced infotainment connectivity, the ID. Buzz is set to be available in Fall 2024.

Scheduled for the second half of 2024, the ID.7 represents Volkswagen’s entry into the upper midsize sedan class. Boasting excellent aerodynamics and an efficient drivetrain, the ID.7 Pro with an 82 kWh battery is estimated to have a potential range of up to 386 miles (EPA-estimated range not yet available). With 282 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque, it features the most powerful and highest-torque electric motor in a Volkswagen EV model to date. The interior emphasizes travel comfort with spacious seating, premium technology, and available features such as the DCC adaptive damping system, Climatronic seats with cooling and heating, Park Assist Plus with Memory, and an electrochromic panoramic sunroof. The ID.7 also introduces the new IDA voice assistant for natural voice commands.

The popular ID.4 SUV, introduced in 2021 and now the fifth-best-selling EV in North America, is set for a significant upgrade in the 2024 model. Assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the 82 kWh-model ID.4 will receive enhancements such as a more powerful performance drive unit, a new 12.9-inch infotainment display, an intuitive climate user interface, and a new shifter. The rear-wheel-drive models will deliver 282 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive models will offer around 330 horsepower. Additionally, the 2023 ID.4 models remain eligible for the full federal tax credit of up to $7,500. Volkswagen, as per fueleconomy.gov, stands out as the only foreign automaker currently eligible for the full federal tax credit, owing to local assembly and sourcing.
