The Three-Row ID.Buzz Debut

June 19th, 2023 by

The well-awaited return of the famous Microbus is back – in the three-row, all-electric ID.Buzz. Earlier this month, the ID.Buzz was finally unveiled in Huntington Beach, CA, debuting its longer wheelbase, larger battery, and increased horsepower than its European version released at the end of 2022. Retro design cues, cutting edge EV technology, and advanced driver assistance features mark this new Volkswagen as a vehicle of the future.

Mimicking its predecessor, the ID.Buzz has a rear-mounted powerplant as standard, which provides great traction, performance, and agility. The increased horsepower of 282 and larger battery at 91 kWh rival its European counterpart which debuted at 201 hp and 82 kWh. The skateboard design that mounts the battery on the floor saves space, while also putting the weight of the vehicle lower in the structure. All-wheel drive is available for the three-row ID. Buzz at launch, with about 330 hp and dual motors. The new electric motor of the ID. Buzz increases the top speed to an electronically limited 99 mph, up from the two-row’s 90 mph.

Of course, the power of the ID.Buzz isn’t the first thing Volkswagen enthusiasts are falling in love with. You’ll find the traditional boxy shape with short overhangs, 10-inches additional in length to account for the larger wheelbase that make the ID.Buzz three-row roughly as wide as the Atlas. Throughout the bus are retro cues that play homage to the original Microbus. An oversized, illuminated VW logo, a light line that extends to either side that connect the LED headlights, bold exterior colors, an available two-tone palette, and more. Dual power-sliding rear doors create excellent access to the third row that coincide with the modern take on the classic sliding windows. You’ll be able to approach your vehicle with keys in pocket, kick a foot under the rear bumper, and seamlessly open the tailgate as needed.

Inside the bus is attention in every detail — retro-inspired wood-optic dash, whimsical Play and Pause pedals from the 2016 BUZZ concept, Buzz easter eggs scattered throughout the vehicle, and more. The removable center console includes flexible storage on top, with two unique dividers that double as a bottle opener and ice scraper, as well as two additional compartments below. 30 color ambient lighting is standard on every bus, with the ability to select from five present moods or create individual areas. This sunroof is 67.4 inches long and 40.8 inches wide, making this the largest of any in the Volkswagen Group.

Comfortability? We’ve got you covered. The ID.Buzz showcases high seating for extreme visibility, full perforated leatherette seating, standard 12-way power driver and passenger seats with dual armrests, ventilation, massage, and memory functions; front seats and outboard second-row seats are heated. Climatronic® automatic climate control will have you comfortable in any season, with dedicated air vents for every row of seating.

And of course – it wouldn’t be a Volkswagen without the latest in technology. You’ll enjoy a 5.3-inch ID. Cockpit, which sits behind the steering wheel with key information, and the 12.9-inch central infotainment display. Standard wireless App-Connect, wireless charging, plus eight USB-C ports throughout the vehicle, a 110V outlet under the passenger seat, and 12-volt charging in the cargo area. IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance technology, featuring hands-on Level 2 ready capability, is standard in the ID. Buzz.
