The 2024 Atlas & Atlas Cross Sport Earn 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+

Volkswagen of America, Inc. proudly announces that both the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2024 Atlas Cross Sport have earned the prestigious 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)! This recognition adds to the acclaim already received by the 2023 ID.4, securing a spot for these models on the esteemed 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ list.

To merit the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award in 2023, a vehicle must excel in various stringent tests by the Institute. This includes obtaining a good rating in the Institute’s updated side test, as well as in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, and original moderate overlap front tests. Standard across all trims, the vehicle must feature acceptable or good headlights, and a front crash prevention system with advanced or superior ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations must be available.

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport exceed these criteria with a standard front crash prevention system that earns advanced ratings in both the daytime and nighttime pedestrian crash avoidance tests. Moreover, the two available headlight systems on these models both receive good ratings.

Volkswagen’s cutting-edge IQ.DRIVE® advanced driver assistance technology is a standard feature on all 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models, offering hands-on semi-automated capability. On the highway, IQ.DRIVE incorporates lane centering and a capacitive steering wheel, enhancing driving ease. In urban settings, IQ.DRIVE alerts drivers to unexpected obstacles in the front and maintains situational awareness to enhance driving safety. The system relies on front and rear radar, a front camera, and multiple ultrasound sensors to gather data from the surroundings, enabling various safety features such as Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance), Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring), Active Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor), Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go, Lane Assist (Lane Keeping System), and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).

Front Assist aims to warn drivers of potential frontal collisions with vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians, providing automatic braking assistance in certain scenarios. It can also detect cyclists or pedestrians traveling parallel to the vehicle and alert the driver. Forward Collision Warning within physical system limits warns the driver of potential critical front-end collision situations, both acoustically and visually, with Automatic Emergency Braking activated if needed. If the car is traveling below 18 mph and the system detects a potential front-end collision, Automatic Emergency Braking activates without prior warning.
